Islam contains both clear rulings and genuine areas of scholarly disagreement. Confusion begins when we treat everything as equally disputed or, at the other extreme, pretend every fiqh question has one obvious answer.
Not Every Question Is a Gray Area
Alcohol and gambling are clearly prohibited in the Quran. Music, some questions of dress, travel, finance and many details of worship contain recognised scholarly disagreement. The first skill is therefore identifying whether an issue is actually disputed before trying to choose between opinions.

The Role of Women in Islam
Questions about women in Islam cover many different subjects, including inheritance, marriage, education, work, leadership, dress and family responsibility. Reducing the entire discussion to “subservience versus equality” hides the actual legal and ethical questions.
Women have also been transmitters of hadith, jurists, teachers and scholars throughout Muslim history. When discussing a specific ruling, identify the verse, hadith, legal school and scholarly reasoning rather than treating “women in Islam” as one single controversy.
The Use of Music in Islam
The ruling on music is a genuine area of scholarly disagreement, but that does not make it a matter of personal preference alone. Scholars who prohibit musical instruments rely on hadith evidence including Sahih al Bukhari 5590. Other recognised scholars permit music under conditions and interpret the evidence differently.
The right way to navigate that disagreement is to understand the evidence and follow qualified scholarship, not simply choose whichever answer matches your existing taste.

The Consumption of Alcohol & Gambling
In Islam, the consumption of alcohol and gambling are both considered haram (forbidden). The Quran specifically prohibits the consumption of alcohol in several verses, including Surah Al-Maidah, Verse 90, and Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse 219. The Quran also warns against the negative effects of alcohol on a person’s judgment and behavior.
Gambling is prohibited because the Quran explicitly commands believers to avoid it in Quran 5:90. It is not best explained as simply “theft” or earning money without work, since not every unearned gain is legally theft.
Both alcohol and gambling are harmful to individuals and society, and their prohibition in Islam is based on the principle of protecting the individual and the community from harm. Muslims are advised to avoid all forms of alcohol and intoxicants and to stay away from gambling and other forms of exploitation and injustice.
I was trying to explore if any scholars or references from the Islamic texts support to a certain degree the consumption of alcohol or gambling, however, there were none. In fact, the consumption of alcohol is strictly forbidden in Islam and is considered a major sin. The prohibition of alcohol is based on several Quranic verses and hadiths, which emphasize its harmful effects on the individual and society.
Conclusion
The most useful question is not “Is everything gray?” It is “What kind of issue am I dealing with?”
- Some matters are clear from the Quran and authentic Sunnah.
- Some contain recognised fiqh disagreement.
- Some depend heavily on context and individual circumstances.
- Some internet controversies are not serious scholarly disagreements at all.
Learning that distinction makes Islam easier to navigate without pretending that every opinion is equally valid or that every disagreement must become a fight.
Keep Learning
When an issue is disputed, start with reliable sources and qualified teachers. When it is clear, do not manufacture a gray area simply because the ruling is inconvenient.
