Self Deception in Faith: When Your Actions Quietly Block Your Blessings

There is a version of Islam many of us practice today.

It looks sincere.
It sounds correct.
It feels safe.

But it is customised.

Not around what Allah wants.
Around what we can tolerate.

We obey where it is easy.
We delay where it is uncomfortable.
We ignore where it exposes us.

And then we say:

“I think I am close to Allah.”

That sentence should worry you.

Self Deception in Faith Is More Dangerous Than Sin

A person who sins knows something is wrong.

A person who deceives himself feels calm.

“I am doing okay.”
“At least I am trying.”
“I am better than before.”

And just like that, urgency disappears.

You do not feel the need to change…
because you think you already have.

You Are Not Struggling With Islam… You Are Managing It

You are not confused.

You are selective.

You give when it feels right.
You speak when it benefits you.
You stay silent when it costs you.

This is not submission.

This is control.

And the moment you decide what to follow…
you are no longer following.

Your Family Sees the Truth You Hide From Others

Your family is not the problem.

Your character is being exposed.

Outside, you are calm.
Measured.
Respectful.

Because there are consequences.

At home?

Short tempered.
Easily triggered.
Holding onto old wounds.

If your Islam does not reach your home…
it has not reached your heart.

You Want Mercy But Refuse to Give It

You want Allah to forgive everything.

Every sin.
Every weakness.

But one person hurts you…
and you cannot let go.

You replay it.
You justify your anger.
You wait.

Allah asks:

“Let them pardon and overlook. Would you not love that Allah should forgive you?”
(Quran 24:22)

Answer honestly.

Do you want forgiveness…
or do you just want to feel right?

When Your Own Actions Start Closing Your Doors

You keep asking:

Why is my life stuck?
Why is there no peace?
Why do things fall apart?

You blame stress.
Timing.
People.

But what if it is you?

Allah already told you:

“Whatever misfortune befalls you is because of what your own hands have earned. And He pardons much.”
(Quran 42:30)

Not every hardship is punishment.

But some are consequences.

You are not being attacked.

You are being restricted.

You Might Already Be Living With Blocked Barakah

You still earn… but it never feels enough.
You have people… but there is distance.
You try… but nothing settles.

Everything looks fine.

But nothing feels right.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“A person is deprived of provision because of the sins that he commits.”
(Sunan Ibn Majah 4022)

Not destroyed.

Just deprived.

Quietly.

The Things You Ignore Are Not Small

You say:

“It’s just a grudge.”
“It’s just family distance.”
“It’s just how I am.”

But listen carefully.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Whoever wants his provision to be increased and his life to be blessed, let him maintain ties of kinship.”
(Sahih al Bukhari 5986)

If maintaining ties brings barakah…

What do you think breaking them does?

You Are Blocking With One Hand What You Ask For With The Other

You pray… but you hold grudges.
You give charity… but you cut off family.
You advise others… but you do not change yourself.

And you think these are separate.

They are not.

You are asking Allah for barakah with one hand…

And blocking it with the other.

The Lie That Keeps You Comfortable

“At least I am not that bad.”

This sentence is dangerous.

Because you compare downwards.

You find someone worse.
You feel better.
You stop there.

But closeness to Allah is not about comparison.

It is about honesty.

The Real Danger

Not the one who sins and knows it.

But the one who feels safe.

Because there is no alarm.

No urgency.

Just a quiet belief:

“I think I am okay.”

The Way Back

Do not overcomplicate it.

Start with what you avoid.

The person you refuse to forgive.
The family you ignore.
The behaviour you defend.

That is where your barakah is stuck.

Final Reflection

You are not waiting for your life to improve.

Your life might already be responding… to you.

The peace you want.
The rizq you seek.
The clarity you are missing.

It may not be delayed.

It may be blocked.

And the key…

Is in the things you keep justifying.
